Laser Additive Manufacturing of Duplex Stainless Steel via Powder Mixture

نویسندگان

چکیده

Laser additively manufactured duplex stainless steels contain mostly ferrite in the as-built parts due to rapid solidification of printed layers. To achieve microstructures (ferrite and austenite roughly equal proportions) and, thus, a good combination mechanical properties corrosion resistance, an austenitic steel powder (X2CrNiMo17-12-2) super (X2CrNiMoN25-7-4) were mixed different proportions mixtures processed via PBF-LB/M (Laser Powder Bed Fusion) under various processing conditions by varying laser power scanning speed. The optimal process parameters for dense determined means light optical microscopy density measurements. ferritic phase formation alloys was significantly influenced chemical composition adjusted mixing energy input during PBF-LB/M. content increases, on one hand, with increasing proportion X2CrNiMo17-12-2 other hand input. latter phenomenon could be attributed slower higher melt pool homogeneity influencing cooling. desired achieved X2CrNiMoN25-7-4 at specific ratio building parameters.

Mechanical Properties of Austenitic Stainless Steel Made by Additive Manufacturing

Using uniaxial tensile and hardness testing, we evaluated the variability and anisotropy of the mechanical properties of an austenitic stainless steel, UNS S17400, manufactured by an additive process, selective laser melting. Like wrought materials, the mechanical properties depend on the orientation introduced by the processing. The recommended stress-relief heat treatment increases the tensil...

Comparison of Laser-Engraved Hole Properties between Cold-Rolled and Laser Additive Manufactured Stainless Steel Sheets

Laser drilling and laser engraving are common manufacturing processes that are found in many applications. With the continuous progress of additive manufacturing (3D printing), these processes can now be applied to the materials used in 3D printing. However, there is a lack of knowledge about how these new materials behave when processed or machined. In this study, sheets of 316L stainless stee...

Compressibility of 304 Stainless Steel Powder Metallurgy Materials Reinforced with 304 Short Stainless Steel Fibers

Powder metallurgy (P/M) technique is usually used for manufacturing porous metal materials. However, some P/M materials are limitedly used in engineering for their performance deficiency. A novel 304 stainless steel P/M material was produced by a solid-state sintering of 304 stainless steel powders and 304 short stainless steel fibers, which were alternately laid in layers according to mass rat...

Crystallography of Widmanstätten austenite in duplex stainless steel weld metal

Two kinds of austenite grow from d-ferrite during the cooling of the duplex stainless steel weld deposits studied here, Widmanstätten plates and allotriomorphs which precipitate at d–d grain boundaries. It is found using microtexture measurements that the preferred crystallographic orientation of the Widmanstätten austenite can be estimated using established theory if it is assumed that there i...

Local Approach to Fracture of an Aged Duplex Stainless Steel

The local approach to fracture (LAF) is a methodology aimed to calculate macroscopic fracture properties of a body, from the knowledge of the local stress strain field at the fracture site, and the modeling of the acting fracture mechanisms. In the present work, this method was applied to a CF8M steel, aged 30000 h at 325 °C, in order to elucidate if LAF could be able to describe the measured f...
